Things you may not know I do
Have you ever had the experience of a doctor ordering labs or imaging and then taking days (or longer) to meet with you to discuss the results? Now that electronic medical records give people access to their information immediately, it can be frustrating and scary to wait after seeing labs flagged "abnormal" or the inscrutable language of a radiology report.
I recently had a patient surprised to hear that I could take a look at their labs and help them make meaning of the results. While I don't currently order tests much outside of gender-affirming HRT management, I am a fully licensed physician, and interpreting labs and images was an important part of my training. Many times, hiding under scary-sounding technical jargon are perfectly normal findings. But even in cases where something is concerning, I can at the very least help you make sense of the results and give you a chance to show up to your appointment prepared with the right questions and ready to self-advocate.
Waiting anxiously for your doctor to get back to you? Don't forget, I'm your doctor too!*
*Assuming, of course, that you're my patient, and not one of my loyal non-patient readers. (Hi, Dad!)
